Master’s Programme in Nuclear Engineering 2019-2020 (120 ECTS)


• This is a Master of Science in Technology (M.Sc. Tech.), (Diplomi-insinööri in Finnish) degree
• Higher university degree gives eligibility to apply for scientific doctoral studies
• Extent 120 ECTS credits
• Duration two year , full-time studies of 60 ECTS per academic year.

Learning Outcomes of the Programme

After completion of the M.Sc. programme in Nuclear Engineering, the graduate
• Is able to utilise different numerical methods of reactor physics and thermal hydraulic safety analysis.
• Understands the nuclear fuel cycle.
• Understands and is able to explain the design principles of nuclear reactors, nuclear steam supply systems and safety systems.
• Understands protection against ionizing radiation.
• Can apply and develop mathematical models to solve energy technological problems.
• Is able to manage and organize both national and international projects.
• Can design energy technology related equipment, plants, processes and systems.
• Is able to communicate and act in academic and research environments.
• Can work as specialist in energy technology.

Degree Structure

The Master's degree (120 ECTS) consists of core studies, specialisation studies, minor studies and free elective studies. The specialsiation studies include a Master's Thesis and a seminar.

The MSc in Nuclear Engineering is also available as two different double degree programmes, which have separate degree structures of their own.
- Master's Programme in Safe and Reliable Nuclear Applications (SARENA) is arranged as a double degree programme. It includes 30 ECTS of studies at IMT Atlantique,
France, and 30 ECTS at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia (UL-Slovenia).
- Master's Programme for Double Degree Students in Nuclear Engineering is meant for the students of our partner universities.
