Aims 

The aim of the course is to create understanding about the contents and operational logic of the future customer-oriented social and health care systems. Problem-based and phenomenon-based learning will be applied in the course. Upon successful completion of the course, student is able to 1) Define and structure the key concepts of the social and health care system, 2) Analyze the current operation and prevailing problems of the service system, 3) Recognize needs and forces for change, and respective causal relationships, 4) Model and conceptualize the new information related to the target phenomenon, and 5) Clarify and reflect new concepts in relation to the starting point.

 
Contents 

Social and health services system in Finland. Social and health services markets. Private and public service provision. Change forces and drivers. Actor networks, roles and responsibilities. Changing role and needs of citizens. Future service reality. Service logics. Health and wellness technologies and innovations. Ethical issues. International examples of health care systems.

Lectures 18 h, written assignments (self-access and group assignments) 126 h, group discussions 12 h, 3.-4. period.
