After completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • formulate the model of large-scale socio-technical problems
  • simulate the complex models of socio-technical problems
  • analyse the behavior of complex systems

The course is planned as a project work addressing identification of wicked problems as well as modelling and simulation of the complex socio-technical systems. The project will be realized by the groups of students. It is planned that the work will be co-supervised by three lecturers with the participation of the stakeholders of the analysed problems, e.g. city authorities.

The course is realised as a mixture of lectures and team work activities relaised out-of-class by the group of students.

Assessment scale and assessment methods 

The evaluation is based on the assessment of projects prepared by the groups of students. The assessment is made on the basis of the written report and the oral presentation of the results of the project. The questions will be asked during the oral presentation.

The study material is composed of the material prepared by the lecturers as well as the list of the suggested lectures.


It is required that students are familiar with the material cover by the courses on systems enegineering or systems modeling and simulation.
