Degree Structure

The Master's degree (120 ECTS) consists of core studies, specialisation studies, minor studies and free elective studies.
Students of the Master’s Programme in Chemical Engineering and Water Treatment specialise either in Chemical and Process Engineering or in Water treatment.
The specialisation studies include a Master's Thesis and a seminar, and the Thesis must be written in English in the programmes taught in English.

In core studies, the students who are admitted directly to this MSc, must take Orientation to M.Sc. Studies, 1 ECTS, in addition to the other core studies.

Minor studies:
If the total of specialisation studies exceeds 80 ECTS, no minor studies are required. Otherwise, the extent of the minor is a min. of 20 ECTS.

The MSc in Chemical Engineering and Water Treatment has recommendations on how the students should choose the minor:
KeSoD200 Advanced Water Treatment (not for students specialising in Water Treatment)
KeSoD300 Advanced Process Engineering (not for students specialising in Chemical and Process Engineering)
KeSoD400 Biobased Chemical Engineering (suitable for distance learning)
KeSoD500 Advanced Chemistry.

Free elective studies can be any courses offered by LUT if the required prerequisites are fulfilled. Studies in other domestic or foreign higher education institutions, a max. of 8 ECTS of internship (BJ02A0031 Work Internship in Master's Degree, 2-10 ECTS) and the leadership training provided by the National Forces (Puolustusvoimien johtajakoulutus) may be included in the degree by application. The studies are approved by the Head of degree programme.

This MSc is also available as a Double Degree Programme for the students of the partner universities of LUT. The Double Degree Programme has a separate degree structure of its own.
