The Master's degree (120 ECTS) consists of core studies, specialisation studies, minor studies and free elective studies.
Students of the MSc in Biorefineries specialise in Biobased Process Engineering. The specialisation studies include a Master's Thesis and Seminar,
and the Thesis must be written in English in the programmes taught in English.
In core studies, the students who are admitted directly to this MSc in Biorefineries, must take Orientation to M.Sc. Studies, 1 ECTS, in addition to the other core studies.
If the total of specialisation studies exceeds 80 ECTS, no minor studies are required. Otherwise, the extent of the minor is a min. of 20 ECTS.
Students are recommended to choose one of the following minors (all are suitable for distance learning):
- EnDETDL Energy Technology (Distance Learning)
- VAKASO Liiketoimintaosaaminen (Basic business studies)
- Asiantuntijuus kiertotaloudessa/Circular Economy, a multidiciplinary study module
- minors offered by FiTech Finnish Institute of Technology https://fitech.io
Free elective studies can be any courses offered by LUT if the required prerequisites are fulfilled. Studies in other domestic or foreign higher education institutions, a max. of 8 ECTS of internship (BJ02A0031 Work Internship in Master's Degree, 2-10 ECTS) and the leadership training provided by the National Forces (Puolustusvoimien johtajakoulutus) may be included in the degree by application. The studies are approved by the Head of degree programme.
